Mountain Air is a community that places high value on family. As such, we’ve created a number of popular, family-oriented recreation areas.
Creekside Park
An outdoor amphitheater, picnic areas and winding interpretive trails make this award-winning park a key component of the Mountain Air lifestyle. Rustic entertaining pavilions – combining Adirondack-style architecture and open-air beauty – are perfect for large picnics or small family gatherings. Tent sites scattered throughout Creekside Park make it easy to spend a night under the stars. This park also boasts a trout pond and waterfall.
Heritage Ridge Park
Located on a prominent ridge with sweeping east and west views, this park makes it easy to enjoy nature’s splendor. Connected to the surrounding forests by a labyrinth of trails and greenways, Heritage Ridge Park opens the mountain for you to explore. Handcrafted gazebos and quiet mountain overlooks give you front-row seats to fantastic sunrises and sunsets. On crisp evenings, enjoy a warm gathering place by the massive stone fireplace in the gazebo.
Slickrock Family Recreation Park
With two fast-dry tennis courts, a putting green and a basketball court, this action-packed area is a hub of activity.
Hawks Ledge Park
Perched at the very top of Slickrock Mountain, this park lifts you to new heights. From a serene hammock, you can take in 360-degree views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. You can also take a seat in the gazebo of intricately woven native woods or roast marshmallows by an open-air fire pit.
The Point Happy Tree House at Hawks Ledge is popular with kids of all ages. An intricate network of ladders, swings and slides, it invites imaginations to run wild. Inside, it’s furnished like an authentic mountain cabin.
The Chautauqua Activity and Fitness Center
While the adults exercise in the state-of-the-art Fitness Center or heated pool, kids can enjoy the exciting planned activities of Club Chautauqua, which range from guided nature hikes and fishing expeditions to arts and crafts activities. Kids can also play ping-pong, air hockey and the latest computer games, or they can take in a movie at Slickrock Cinema, complete with theater seats, surround sound, a large viewing screen and real movie popcorn.
